Warren Mabee is Associate Professor with a joint appointment to the School of Policy Studies and the Department of Geography. He is Director of the Queen’s Institute for Energy and Environmental Policy (QIEEP), and the Canada Research Chair in Renewable Energy Development and Implementation. His research focuses on the interface between renewable energy policy and technologies, with particular emphasis on wood energy and biofuels.
Dr Mabee’s interests also include environmental policy, international approaches to renewable energy development, and commercialization of new products and processes.
In 2008, he was engaged in the development of the BC Bioenergy Network, a $25-million program designed to advanced bioenergy technologies in the province of British Columbia. He has authored numerous studies examining policy for renewable energy options, and has provided expert advice to both federal and provincial governments on the development of strategies to reduce our reliance upon fossil energy sources.
He is active on the international scene, serving as the Associate Task Leader for the International Energy Agencies Bioenergy Task 39 ‘Liquid biofuels’. His work has been published in journals including Biomass and Bioenergy, Bioresource Technology, and Nature. Currently, he teaches at the undergraduate level through Geography, and offers Environmental Policy (MPA 847) through the School of Policy Studies.
Dr. Mabee studied at the University of Toronto, where he received his BScF, MScF, and PhD from the Faculty of Forestry. He also spent time as a Postdoctoral Fellow and Research Associate at the University of British Columbia.
